An Atlantan In Baltimore: City Cafe Round 2

City Cafe: Mt. Vernon, Baltimore, MD, USA

I chose to take my family to City Cafe before graduation because it was literally a 2 block walk from the graduation venue.  Luckily we went early because the entire lunch hour was fully booked with reservations.  We did have to kill some time at the local Starbucks, but it was totally necessary given that my parents had to stay awake through a 3.5 hour ceremony of seeing people they do not know get their diplomas.  Perhaps this is one time where smartphones are quite useful!

I ordered the Baltimore club sandwich for lunch.  It consisted of shrimp salad, bacon, lettuce, tomato, and crab cake in a two-tier sandwich.  I requested a side salad as part of my dish to try and keep things light since we were going to Annabel Lee’s Tavern for duck fat fries later.  In addition, I also ordered seared tuna for the table.

Baltimore Club Sandwich

PROS

  • great quantity
  • awesome flavor: crab cake and shrimp salad are a great pairing

CONS

  • bread was too thin: I recommend Texas Toast because by the time the lettuce or the condiments get to the table, the bread has become soggy.

Seared Tuna

PROS

  • very light, clean taste
  • well seared, not over cooked (this can be hit or miss)
  • sauce that was drizzled on the plate was pretty tasty

CONS

  • not enough seasoning on the outer portion of the tuna

I definitely recommend this sandwich.  Their chicken pesto pasta was also ridiculously good.  It was also ridiculously rich to the point I honestly felt my arteries clogging as I ate it, but somehow my fork couldn’t stop shoveling food into my mouth.  If you do decide to check out City Cafe, you can find them below.  They are a short walk from Penn Station, but I believe the Charm City Circulator purple line also stops quite close near Biddle Street.  The closest access from N. Charles coming from Inner Harbor is off Eager Street even though the address says Cathedral St.

Thank you again for being awesome readers!  We’ll be closing out this series of Baltimore soon and hope to have more adventures somewhere else if not back home in Atlanta.
